Egypt Air Plane has been Hijacked

• • Hijacked Egyptair plane: Bomb is believed to be on board as the flight MS181 lands in Cyprus
  • One or more hijackers have taken control of a domestic Egyptair flight from Alexandria to Cairo. The plane has now landed at Larnaca in Cyprus.

  • Egyptair has confirmed in a statement that the flight was hijacked. Reuters reported the aircraft landed at the airport in southern Cyprus a short while afterwards.
  • Quoting unnamed officials, the Associated Press has reported a bomb may be aboard the flight.  Aviation officials in Cyprus appear to be operating on the assumption there may bomb onboard the Egyptair flight. A crisis team has been deployed on the tarmac at Larnaca although no specific demands appear to have been made at this point.
  • The hijacker or hijackers have also not indentified themselves as working for any group, al-Arabiya news reported.
