Chelsea captain John Terry has offered to pay burial costs for an eight-year-old Chelsea fan who died of leukemia last week, according to the Cambridge News.

The Chelsea legend was contacted by a friend of Tommi Miller's family, and immediately extended an offer to cover the cost of the funeral, which stands at £1600.

Tommi was a huge Chelsea fan whom Terry had met last year."Having had the pleasure of meeting Tommi at a Chelsea game I was totally devastated to hear of him passing away," Terry said to Cambridge News. "I'm sure his family and friends will give him the send off he deserves."Tommi, a fan of Cambridge United as well, died last Thursday after doctors attempted an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant.

His mother Ruth, 41, said: "I'm overwhelmed really, because Tommi was such a great fan of John Terry in particular. He was one of his favourite players.

"He adored the whole team as well as Petr Cech, before he went to Arsenal. "We don't want a traditional sort of funeral. It's for a child, so we thought we would have it as bright and cheerful as he would want it."

She also explained how Terry got in touch with the family when Tommi became seriously ill.

"Just before Tommi was put on life support we received a personal letter from John Terry and it was read out to him. He was heavily sedated so we only hope he could hear us."

Tommi had also received a letter from the whole team, which was signed by Gary Cahill
